About transMISSIONs
What is transMISSIONs?
transMISSIONs, The Good News Garage Vehicle Donation Alliance is an innovative opportunity for Family Resources Community Action to accept vehicle donations as a revenue stream to fund programming.
What does “Powered by transMISSIONs” mean?
Family Resources Community Action has chosen to become a transMISSIONs alliance member, trusting the experience and expertise of Good News Garage to manage their vehicle donation program. Your vehicle donation is powered by transMISSIONs, meaning Good News Garage will handle all aspects of your donation, including: intake, pick-up, evaluation, repairs, disposition, required receipts and tax paperwork.
What is Good News Garage?
Good News Garage(GNG), a program of Lutheran Social Services, is a unique car donation program. The mission of Good News Garage is to create economic opportunity by providing safe and reliable transportation options for people in need. GNG accepts, repairs and awards donated vehicles to New England families striving to become financially self-sufficient. Families use the cars to commute to work, bring children to childcare, medical appointments and more. Founded in 1996 in Burlington, Vermont, Good News Garage has since grown to serve clients in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island. Since our founding, Good News Garage has received more than 12,000 car donations and awarded more than 3,500 vehicles to New England families in need.
What makes transMISSIONs different from other car donation programs?
There are many players in the car donation industry. Unfortunately, what may appear to be a charitable donation program is often a for-profit liquidator. transMISSIONs offers its nonprofit allies an honest and unique alternative to other car donation programs. transMISSIONs is a program founded on transparency, professionalism and equitability. When you donate your vehicle to Family Resources Community Action you can be assured the amount Family Resources Community Action receives as a result of your donation will be the highest possible share of your vehicle’s value.
How will my car ultimately support Family Resources Community Action?
Your vehicle is ultimately converted to cash benefiting Family Resources Community Action. Good News Garage always aims to get the highest price and most useful value, which hopefully includes a family using the vehicle. In the case of vehicles matched with a family in need, Family Resources Community Action receives the auction value in accordance with a standard and fair division of proceeds, based on third party evidence of what similar vehicles are valued at in the local auction market.
Many donated vehicles are evaluated to determine their best future use. Vehicles that can be repaired at a reasonable cost and provide a new owner with a year or two of safe and reliable service will be awarded to a family in need. These families are qualified by Good News Garage through a fair application process, in accordance with the mission of Good News Garage. Family Resources Community Action may refer their clients to Good News Garage, which means your car may directly help a client of Family Resources Community Action. Cars with unusually high mileage, certain high-end models and cars requiring costly repairs will be sold. In either case, Family Resources Community Action will receive a mutually agreed upon share of the vehicle sale price or market value. You can feel good knowing that your vehicle donation will be helping to further the mission of Family Resources Community Action as well as the mission of Good News Garage.
What is Lutheran Social Services?
